What is the Residential Treatment Programme?
The residential treatment programme is an intensive inpatient programme designed for clients who have decided that total abstinence as a way to abstinence and recovery. Clients participating in this programme must reside in Barrymore House Barrymore House, 217, North Circular Road for the duration of the programme.

Who is eligible for the programme?
Any person residing within the HSE - North Eastern Area. Clients can be assesed and refered from their local alcohol services. However, this is merely preliminary and all clients are assessed by Stanhope Centre prior to being offered a place on the programme, which will involve several interviews with the counsellors in Stanhope Centre.
How long does the programme last?
The residential phase of the programme lasts for 5 weeks. This is followed by a combined programme for Relapse Prevention Group and Aftercare which is arranged on completion of the programme. |
What is the purpose of this programme?
The aim of this programme is to provide treatment and support for problem drinkers who have chosen total abstinence as their goal. It facilitates those clients who need time away from their usual environment in order to achieve their goal of abstinence.

What are the requirements for admission to the programme?
Clients will have undergone a comprehensive assessment process. They must be free fron alcohol and all mood altering substances for an absolute minimum of one week prior to entrance to the programme. This includes all tranquilizers and sleeping tablets – all street drugs and excessive use of over the counter painkillers, cough bottles etc.
What is the cost of this programme?
The formal treatment programme is funded by the HSE but there is a small charge each week. This is to cover the cost of your food and accommodation. |
What is expected of the participant?
Clients on the residual programme will live in 217, North Circular Road and walk down to Stanhope Centre every morning to arrive by 9:30am. They will return to Barrymore House at 12:30pm for lunch and return to Stanhope Centre by 2:15pm for the afternoon session. This continues until 4:30pm at which time clients will then return to Barrymore House for the remainder of the evening.
During your treatment it is expected that at least one of your family will be involved with your treatment.
Clients must abide by all the rules both within Barrymore House and Stanhope Centre.

Barrymore House can accommodate 9 people in total on this programme. | |
